The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering at Texas Tech is respected and ranked nationally. The department offers a variety of industrial engineering undergraduate courses and activities while maintaining small class size. Professors know their students by name and are genuinely interested in preparing them for a successful engineering career. Graduates of the undergraduate program are recruited heavily by a variety of national and regional corporations and generally start with above-average salaries.

The undergraduate curriculum in Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems engineering prepares students for professional careers in the analysis and design of human-machine work systems. Students entering the industrial engineering undergraduate program will be assigned a faculty advisor and will be responsible for arranging a course of study with the advisor's approval.

Educational Program Statement

The department supports the mission of the university through its undergraduate program by providing students with an appropriate curriculum and educational experience. The course selection and content remain current through continuous assessment by employers, alumni, faculty and students. Students obtain a broad education that enables them to understand the impact of industrial engineering solutions in a global, social, and environmental context. To accomplish this mission, the industrial engineering faculty, with advice from students, alumni, industry advisory board (IAB) members, and employers, endorse the following program educational objectives:

Within a few years of graduation, our Industrial Engineering BS graduates are expected to:

Assume professional, technical managerial, or leadership roles within industrial organizations and/or pursue graduate level education
Apply knowledge through discovery, synthesis, and integration for the betterment of their organization or society at large.

Student Outcomes

The Student Outcomes define the knowledge and skills that will be mastered by our graduates. To enable Texas Tech industrial engineering students to accomplish the ABET program objectives, the curriculum is designed to assure that students, at the time of graduation, are able to:

Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data.
Design, develop, implement and improve a component, process, or integrated system of people, materials, information, equipment, and energy to meet desired needs within realistic constraints (such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability).
Function on multidisciplinary teams.
Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
Communicate effectively.
Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in life-long learning.
Know contemporary issues.
Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
