The Department of Comparative Literature is a small department whose distinctiveness lies in fostering students' originality and independent intellectual inquiries. It's core identity consists in the theoretical studies of literature, politics and culture. The department stresses philosophical and theoretical graduate studies in the humanities, and is best known for its interdisciplinary work in post-Kantian philosophy, poststructuralism, and literatures of the 18th through 21st centuries. The cutting-edge, theoretical-philosophical approaches frame the various fields in our department's research and teaching.

COURSEWORK

MA students must complete a minimum of nine intensive seminars and at least three credit hours of Masters Project Guidance (COL 598). Students are encouraged to enroll in at least two courses devoted to national literatures other than English with the reading conducted in the national language.

A baccalaureate degree in engineering or a related technical field, such as math, physics, behavioral sciences or health sciences. Appropriate academic background varies by graduate specialization. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for all undergraduate work undertaken during the last two years of the applicant's studies.
