This program is designed to prepare graduates for advanced positions in apparel and textile product design and development, CAD technology, industry research and development, careers in higher education and government and continued graduate study. Creative solutions, cutting edge technology and real world applications are emphasized at all instructional levels.

Ask any of our students pursuing a master’s degree in Apparel Product Development and Merchandising about their day-to-day experiences in this two-year program. Through a creative and collaborative approach to the study of apparel and textiles, our primary goal is to introduce students to real-world apparel and design – from concept development to retail distribution using advanced knowledge and creativity in design, production, evaluation and technology.

Graduates will be prepared for executive level positions in apparel and textile product design and development, CAD technology, industry research and development, as well as for careers in higher education and government. This program is also appropriate for those individuals seeking further graduate study at the Ph.D. level.

Students must have

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with at least 12 semester hours in fashion merchandising and design (equivalent work experience considered in place of 12 semester hours);

A GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work or equivalent.

You must provide one of the following:

  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score, dated within two (2) years of admission application.
  • Test scores must be sent directly from the ETS (English Testing Site) Office to Central Michigan University Global Campus. Our institution code is 1106
  • Scores must be 213 or above on the computer based test (CBT) or 550 or above on the paper based test (PBT) or 79 or above on the internet based test (IBT).

Application deadline dates are March 1 for fall admission and Aug. 1 for spring admission.
