Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Binghamton University's Master's of Social Work (MSW) program trains competent and effective social workers in an empowering, inclusive environment. The Department of Social Work aims to prepare social workers for autonomous, knowledge-based, advanced generalist practice within an integrated community of scholars, practitioners and learners.

The MSW program helps students acquire a broad base of knowledge and skills to address the needs of families, individuals, groups, organizations and communities. The faculty is committed to education that furthers social and economic justice, as well as to developing professional social workers who will become leaders in a complex, multicultural society. Binghamton University ranked second out of 21 social work programs in New York state for first-time pass rates on the American Association Social Work Board (ASWB) exam at the Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) level.

To be eligible for graduate study, you must: Provide a complete set of your undergraduate (and, if applicable, graduate) transcripts showing one of the following: You have earned a bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university; You are within one academic year of earning a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university; You are eligible to apply as part of a memorandum of understanding between your current institution and Binghamton University. IELTS: The Graduate School requires a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with no band below 5.0.

TOEFL: The Graduate School requires a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based test.

PTE Academic: The Graduate School requires a minimum PTE Academic score of 53.
