The studentship is offered as a 3 year award on a full-time basis. Applicants are expected to have a strong first degree (2:1) in a relevant social science discipline, including demonstrable experience using qualitative research methods and a Masters degree with full social sciences research methods training (or equivalent professional training).
The ESRC Centre for Care is pleased to offer a PhD studentship based with the Centre for Health Services Studies.
The ESRC Centre for Care is a new research centre established following a highly competitive process run by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The Centre is led by investigators in five universities, three major charities and the Office for National Statistics, and will work in close partnership with a large network of partners and leading international research teams, co-producing its research with people who need care, carers, care workers and others.
The PhD will focus on developing innovation in a fragmented care system. It will explore how different parts of the care system interact that helps or hinders innovation and the reasons for this. The research will be conducted through policy analysis and a range of qualitative methods. The findings will provide policy makers and practitioners with evidence to better understand whether different providers and types of services need different approaches to supporting innovation or for collaboration.
