This scholarship within the School of Human and Health Sciences is aimed at the very best Huddersfield graduates and is available from January 2023 for either full-time or part-time MSc by Research and PhD programs. It provides a 100% waiver of fees for UK domiciled students. (International students receive a waiver of the equivalent of home fees and therefore pay only the difference between home and international fees.) We positively encourage applications from groups under-represented in postgraduate research, including (but not limited to) women, LGBTQ+ candidates, BAME candidates, candidates with disabilities, applicants with caring responsibilities, and care leavers. The scholarship is subject to competitive application. Currently only one is available, though other opportunities may be offered on this web page later. To be eligible to apply, applicants should meet the following criteria.

A first-class honours degree or A distinction at taught Master’s
or
Have been recommended on the basis of their Master’s by Research by their supervisor and can demonstrate strongly positive comments from the Master’s examiners (applicants must agree for us to review their examination outcome documents). and have graduated from the University of Huddersfield in the last three years. If applicants are due to graduate in the current academic year, then any offer will be conditional on degree outcome.

The scholarship is available from January 2023 and is available for the standard registration period only. For doctoral awards this will be either 3 years full-time or 6 years-part time and for Master’s by Research awards this will be either 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. The fee waiver will not apply to any research undertaken outside of this standard registration period, including any write-up period.
Applicants should submit a high-quality research proposal which aligns with the key research themes of the Research Centres within the School of Human and Health Sciences. The research proposal should be supported by two potential supervisors with capacity to supervise.
Those applying should be prepared to contribute up to 270 hours of unpaid work per year (approx 6 hrs per week or 3 hrs per week part-time) to the School which may include teaching assistance, related preparation and marking and research assistance. Before application they should familiarise themselves with the expectations of postgraduate researchers in receipt of a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship. Please note that applications for a full-time fee waiver will not be considered from those intending to be in full-time paid employment.
