Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (BEDS) in Architecture

Apa yang akan saya pelajari?

We're known nationally and around the world as a school that educates architects with a solid, integrated understanding of design and building: thinking sustainably with their community in mind, using creative and artful designs.

What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies is a two-year program entered after completing two years of university studies in another subject. You take courses in design, humanities, technology and professional practice.

You'll work individually and collaboratively on design projects in the studio, learning manual skills in drawing, modeling, and building and then the equivalent digital skills.

Sample courses:

  • Design
  • Ancient Settlements, Buildings, and Landscapes
  • Free Lab

The four-month co-op work term is a great way to begin applying new knowledge in a professional architectural practice. Co-op work terms include opportunities across the country and around the world and typically involve various aspects of building design, including design drawing, model-making, computer drafting and construction supervision.

Careers and future study:

Architecture provides an excellent framework for all sorts of careers. By studying architecture, you develop artistic skill, knowledge of history, technology, social and cultural awareness, and a critical imagination.

Most BEDS graduates continue into the Master of Architecture (MArch) or Master of Planning programs. After the MArch program, most students work in a professional architectural office, often in Canada but sometimes abroad. Careers in architectural practice include:

  • house design
  • historic restoration and adaptation
  • urban and community design.
