The Master of Public Health (MPH) is offered by the School of Public Health and Social Policy in the Faculty of Human and Social Development. This graduate program is suited for those interested in a career that promotes population health and well-being, and who want to take on leadership roles within health and community services sectors. The program emphasizes social justice and community-centred approaches to public health. Students choose an area of focus in social policy or Indigenous health studies. You will learn through a combination of online courses and required 450-hour practicum and complete your degree with either a culminating report or a thesis. Students in this program will: demonstrate knowledge of public health principles including ethical, legal and social debates impacting the health of populations question and explain how public health policies and other interventions have interacted with determinants of health and health inequities effectively engage and collaborate with communities to address public health issues, including upholding community leadership and self-determination bridge Indigenous and western understandings of health and wellbeing apply public health research strategies and evidence-informed approaches to the design, implementation and evaluation of community-based initiatives effectively use knowledge translation and dissemination strategies for professional and non-professional audiences demonstrate leadership skills and culturally humility when engaging in public health-related decision making on an inter-professional team
