It offers a wide range of courses including campaigns and elections, the Presidency and Congress, social movements and civil rights, terrorism and war, constitutional law, environmental policy, religious politics, urban politics and poverty and international politics. The department is a particularly inviting environment for students, with small class sizes, its own building, a computer lab and options to specialize via several tracks in the major. Tracks include: Applied Politics, Global Politics and International Affairs.

The University of Louisville seeks to admit college-ready students. Students with strong high school grades and a pre-college high school curriculum are generally admitted. Students with lower test scores will be considered if they demonstrate strong high school grades in a rigorous high school curriculum. GCE: O Level: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects, average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher IGCSE: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects, average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher. (Any AS/A Levels will be included in assessment. All subjects must meet standards as outlined here.) GCE: AS/ A Level: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects (can be a combination of O and A level), average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher; (Any O Levels will be included in assessment. IB: International Baccalaureate: Successful completion of IB Diploma minimum of 27 Points West African School Certificate: Completion with minimum C4 in a minimum of 5 subjects General Educational Development (GED) exam: The GED satisfies proof of HS graduation only. Applicants must have a minimum score of 145 (equivalent to 2.9 GPA). They will be required to take the Reading Accuplacer exams to indicate college readiness.
