The IDS degree program is a broader, interdisciplinary course of study rather than a traditional major/minor. The Interdisciplinary Studies degree prepares students to think critically and analytically across multiple disciplines or fields of study. With a flexible degree program, you choose classes that are interesting and meaningful to you. Students take the majority of their courses in an Emphasis, which requires 27 units. The remaining courses are taken in 3 different Concentrations, with 9 units required in each Concentration. The Emphasis and the Concentration themes are discussed in more depth on the emphases page.Sports and Society provides students a basis for understanding the sports industry and the broader economic, political, religious, cultural, ethnic, and social systems that apply to the world of sports. Selected courses should emphasize the development of a fundamental skill set in economics, accounting, and general management theory as well as an increased understanding and ability to evaluate multiple perspectives on social and cultural change, and to assess the strengths and weaknesses of conflicting points of view. Emphasis theme requirements stipulate that students take courses in at least two different disciplines that emphasize development of and appreciation of the economic, political, religious, cultural, ethnic, and social systems that apply to the world of sports.
