Public health improves the quality of life by supporting healthy environments, promoting healthy lifestyles, and protecting resources that support community health. Professionals assess the health needs of communities and individuals. They develop programs that help people take better care of themselves. Thanks to their efforts, people form healthy behaviors that give them a long, quality life. Public health professionals also take an active role in policy. They often write grants and work with lawmakers to ensure people live in healthy environments. You can find public health professionals in almost any setting. Hospitals, schools, corporations, and nonprofit agencies all take active roles in community health promotion.Health Promotion Specialists and Health Educators work with people in schools and community settings. They promote positive health behaviors by giving presentations, planning and implementing programs, preparing instructional materials, assessing community and individual health needs, teaching and training, coordinating community/school efforts, health coaching, advocating for healthy policies, leading coalitions, and acting as a resource person. The School Health Education curriculum is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Public Health curriculum is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
