As a materials science and engineering graduate student, you’ll be working with and studying metals, glass, ceramics and biomaterials. This interdisciplinary master’s degree program is sponsored jointly by the ceramic engineering and metallurgical engineering departments, and does require a research component in one of the specialty areas.

In the areas of glass, ceramic, and biomaterials, the department carries out studies in:

  • Electronic ceramics
  • High temperature materials
  • Structural ceramics
    • Composites
  • Ceramic processing
  • Laser glasses
  • Nuclear waste encapsulation glasses

In the area of metallurgical science, the department carries out studies in:

  • Physical and mechanical metallurgy
  • Extractive metallurgy
  • Metals casting
  • Joining and forming
  • Manufacturing metallurgy

The total number of hours required for the Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering is 72. Ph.D. students are required to complete the three core courses, MS&E 6110, MS&E 6120, and MS&E 6130. To advance to Ph.D. candidacy, the student must take and pass a qualifying exam. This must be completed prior to the beginning of the fifth semester after entering the graduate program. Students must also take and pass the comprehensive exam in accordance with Missouri S&T rules.

M.S. degree in engineering with a GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale). English Language Requirement: TOEFL: 80; IELTS: 6.5; PTE: 58; Duolingo: 105.

Untuk mahasiswa internasional

The requirement for entry into one of these programs includes a baccalaureate degree in materials science or engineering, ceramic engineering or science, glass science or technology, or metallurgical science or engineering. A baccalaureate degree in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline may also be acceptable.

The following minimum scores are required for unconditional admission to Missouri S&T: TOEFL score of 79, IELTS score of 6.5, PTE score of 53.

Priority Application Deadlines: Fall Semester - April 30; Spring Semester - Nov. 15; Summer Semester - March 15.
