Linguistics is the scientific study of the nature and use of language. Investigate its role in society, its structures and their cognitive representation, and language learning and teaching. Take courses in areas such as how languages of the world are similar and different, how individuals and groups use language in society, how grammars and sound systems are structured and develop over time, how children learn language, how multiple languages co-exist in the mind and brain, how linguistics is used to solve criminal cases and how to teach languages. Apply linguistics tools and develop employment skills by being a language ambassador, working with the community to document under-documented languages, teaching a language and engaging with the public in scientific outreach activities. Conduct research and benefit from the mentorship of our world-renowned faculty. Receive expert advice from our faculty in exploring possible career paths.
