About the Bursaries

The purpose of the Alumni Foundation Music Bursaries is to support the strong musical tradition associated with the University by enabling talented student musicians who have already made a significant contribution to the musical life of the University (but who are not based in the Department of Music) to benefit from professional tuition in either voice, instrument or conducting.

Remuneration

Awards will normally be of the order of £500 and will be valid for one session only, though award-holders may reapply for a bursary in subsequent sessions.

Eligibility

Alumni Bursaries will not be open to students who already hold a University Music Award (Organ or Choral Scholarship) or to those studying a degree within the Music Department. One of the criteria for being awarded a bursary is contribution to University music-making so they can only be held from the second year onwards. Award-holders will be advised by the Department of Music regarding the choice of teacher, and the Alumni Foundation will pay the bursary at the beginning of the academic year.
