I always beleived that nothing in this life is constant except for change.
Coming to Canada where culture is totally different from the Philippines, I had to go through major adjustments.
As an introvert, I learned that it is important to open up, expand my circle, an improve my network. My advice to upcoming international students is to take the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Learn and see the beauty about other people's way of life.
Putting yourself out there would allow you to see other versions of yourself which you would have not expected if you did not decide to come to Canada as an international student.
As they say ni man is an island. Therefore, surround yourself with people who will shape you to become better.

Adjusting to life as an international student in Canada has been both challenging and rewarding. At first, the hardest parts were adapting to the cold winters, being far from family, and getting used to a new academic system, but with time I learned how to manage these changes by preparing properly, getting involved in campus life, and building a support system. What surprised me was how welcoming people in Ottawa and at Carleton were—professors and classmates were approachable, and making friends across cultures was easier than I expected. Whenever I needed help, the Carleton International Student Services Office (ISSO) was my go-to resource, as they supported me with immigration documents, health insurance questions, and cultural adjustment. My advice for other students is to not be afraid to ask for help, get involved in clubs or volunteering to meet people, take time to adjust, and explore the city to feel more at home. Overall, the experience of studying abroad has been challenging at times, but it has helped me grow in ways I never imagined.
