Bachelor of Biomedicine - (Double degree with Master of Laboratory Medicine)

Study the sciences that underpin human medicine. In the Bachelor of Biomedicine, you’ll build a strong foundation across the core biomedical sciences - anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, genetics, immunology, and microbiology. You’ll also have the chance to tailor your learning through two majors: Medical Research and Medical Sciences. Choose one to focus your expertise, or study both to broaden your skills and open more career and study options after graduation. The Bachelor of Biomedicine (M3X) is available as a four-year double degree with the Master of Laboratory Medicine (H7L). Admission to the M3X BBiomed-MLabMed pathway is to the Semester 1 (February) intake at the Launceston campus. All units in the Bachelor of Biomedicine (the first two years of the double degree) are available in both Launceston and Hobart. The Master of Laboratory Medicine (Years 3 and 4 of the double degree) is only available in Launceston as that is the location of our specialist facilities and laboratories. A maximum quota of 35 students per year will be admitted to the double degree pathway. The final semester of the Master of Laboratory Medicine involves 16 weeks of Professional Experience Placement (PEP), where you will be hosted by a NATA accredited diagnostic pathology laboratory (or equivalent). This work-integrated learning approach allows you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours, and knowledge in an active workplace environment, immersing you in a professional healthcare setting to gain a better understanding of the roles of professionals within the health care system.
