The Italian Language & Culture major provides students with a high level of competence in the Italian language as well as a critical understanding of cultural, social and historical aspects of Italy. Language learning is integrated with the development of cultural awareness, and students have the opportunity to explore such areas as Italian sociolinguistics, cinema, music, gender studies, postcolonial, migration and women's literature. Students are encouraged to spend a semester studying abroad, taking advantage of exchange agreements with partner universities in Italy.
