Speech pathologists play a vital role in assessing and treating both adults and children with acquired or congenital disorders affecting speech, fluency, voice, language, swallowing, and multimodal communication.The Bachelor of Speech Pathology prepares students for entry into professional practice, providing a strong theoretical foundation along with extensive practical experience.Core areas of study include phonetics and linguistics, audiology, neurology, and interprofessional collaboration with students from other health disciplines. Students benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities and undertake 910 hours of clinical placement in a range of settings, including schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and the Southern Cross University Health Clinics located at the Gold Coast, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour campuses.Graduates of this program are well-positioned for growing career opportunities both nationally and internationally, working in diverse environments such as private practice, not-for-profit organisations, and government health and education services, often in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

English proficiency is a requirement for all students.Achieving an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 8.0 overall and a minimum score of 8.0 in each of the four components; or Achieving an International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) score of at least 4 plus in each of the four areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. An applicant who has completed a Certificate III qualification will not be admitted solely on the basis of this qualification
