Philosophy investigates many of the big questions of life: what is a human being. Are there such things as justice, beauty or God. What counts as knowledge. Investigating these and other questions, such as the nature of time, the relation between body and mind, how we define good and bad, is a conversation that draws from great thinkers-­‐past and present. This is a discipline that challenges each of us to think about these kinds of problems critically, creatively and systematically.The UNB program encourages you to complicate and clarify your thought through close and critical reading of great thinkers, engaged discussion in seminar settings, and challenging writing opportunities through sustained writing-­‐ mentoring. This provides a robust preparation for graduate study in philosophy and a superb foundation for other fields such as law, journalism, government, publishing, health professions, environmental policy, and business.
