Criminology is concerned with the complex social phenomena of crime and criminalization.Students in the criminology program explore the problem of crime, the operation of law and the criminal justice system, issues relating to social justice and human rights and the agencies and programs designed to prevent, control and respond to criminal activity.Practicum opportunitiesStudents who choose to take the Practicum in CriminologicalSociological Research course will participate in supervised work in a criminal justice or social service agency combined with classroom instruction, ending with the production of a comprehensive research report. Through this course, students gain practical experience and develop contacts that can help them with future careers.Studying Criminology will provide you withan understanding of human social behaviours and how they are affected by personal, public and societal issuesthe ability to describe, understand and predict social behaviours using quantitative and qualitative methodsthe ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to many complex social issuesthe ability to communicate effectively
