UNB's Faculty of Education PhD degree prepares students for solid foundations in education within academic, government or private sectors. Our PhD program requires a dissertation on original and significant research within the field of education.

Doctoral studies in education will help you to:
To study, design and conduct research at an advanced level
Develop the competence and expertise needed to assume positions of educational leadership
Work collaboratively with colleagues in educational endeavors and to continue your professional development

Assisting individuals to study at an advanced level
Working in supervisory and collegial relationships with one or more faculty members, you will:
Gain in-depth knowledge and critical and comprehensive understanding of a specific area or several related areas within the field of education
Formulate and express both orally and in writing, personal and professional positions in your area of interest
Develop an understanding of and ability to use and evaluate research methodologies which typify educational research
Design and present a proposal for an approved research project of significance in the field of education
You will complete the proposed research under the supervision of faculty members, then write and orally defend a dissertation and participate in other activities designed to develop competencies in:
Disseminating knowledge to others
Planning and conducting research and/or development activities
Leadership roles within formal and/or informal educational institutions, agencies or communities
Duration: A course-based degree consists of 10 courses; a project/report-based degree consists of eight courses plus a report; and a thesis-based degree consists of five courses plus a thesis. PhD students must complete the degree within seven years of their first registration.

The applicant must have completed a previous degree at the graduate level from a recognized institution.
Applicants will be considered to be admissible if their academic standing in their previous graduate degree indicates a high academic standing (e.g., a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or higher, an average of A- or higher, or its equivalent).
International applicants whose first language is not English must submit language scores that meet or exceed:
International English language testing system (IELTS) = band 7 in all categories
Paper-based TOEFL = 650
Computer-based TOEFL = 280
TWE = 5.5
The Faculty of Education PhD program has one application deadline date of Dec 1.
