Apa yang akan saya pelajari?

This comprehensive primary bicultural teacher education programme enables graduates to teach in primary, intermediate, bilingual and/or Māori-medium schools (depending on a graduate’s ability in te reo Māori). Applicants for the programme do not need to be fluent in te reo Māori. Successful applicants require enthusiasm for children and learning and a commitment to increasing their understanding of te ao and te reo Māori. The programme addresses professional teaching issues, subject knowledge, education theory, the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum and practical teaching experience. It also includes components that are based in te ao Māori and develops proficiency in te reo Māori to enable graduates to deliver curriculum which is encased in whakaaro Māori.

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities), on the advice of the Dean, College of Education, who must be satisfied that, in accordance with Education and Training Act 2020 Section 255(5) (a) and (b), the applicant satisfies the minimum requirements for admission to an initial teacher education programme as specified by the relevant professional body..

We recognise many other qualifications as equivalent to the New Zealand qualification for entrance.

We also accept the following international qualifications:

International Baccalaureate: IB Diploma with a minimum of 24 points.
Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) GCE Advanced Levels: minimum Numerical Score of 8
