This course provides essential academic and professional training in the systematic study of language education, language learning and language teaching. You'll learn from our academics who have expertise in related disciplines including sociolinguistics, critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics. We have particular expertise in second language acquisition, academic writing, vocabulary acquisition, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), materials design and testing.Focus on key areas of learning and teaching second languages, including:Language teaching methodologyTeaching skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and systems (grammar, vocabulary and discourse)Materials selection and useClassroom pedagogy and reflective practiceYou’ll study theoretical approaches to TESOL in the research environment of an academic department, and put these into practice in our English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC).Through this unique combination of theory and practice, you'll develop awareness of the theoretical principles underpinning TESOL practice and be equipped with the practical skills to work in diverse international educational contexts.
