BA (Hons) French and Linguistics is a dynamic course designed for students who are passionate about language – how it works, how it’s used, and how it shapes our world. You’ll study French, one of the most widely spoken languages across Europe and the Americas, while also exploring linguistics, the scientific study of language, communication and meaning. From understanding how languages evolve to exploring how they’re structured and learned, you’ll develop a strong theoretical and practical foundation in both areas.You’ll be part of a multicultural learning community, surrounded by academics, international students, and exchange students who use French every day in real contexts. At the same time, your linguistics learning will introduce you to areas such as phonetics, grammar, language acquisition, and applied linguistics, with examples drawn from English and other languages.Your learning will be shaped by active researchers whose work has real‑world impact, from forensic linguistics to accent mapping and studies on the implication of how language is used in policy documents.
