**Climate change, pollution and unsustainable fishing are just some of the many challenges facing marine life. Join the fight to protect precious and complex ocean ecosystems by building relevant knowledge and skills to make a difference with our BSc (Hons) Marine Biology with Foundation Year degree.**Our oceans are filled with delicate ecosystems and amazing wildlife - but all of this is in danger. With COP26 highlight the greater need for concern about the human impact on precious ecosystems, seize this opportunity to build the knowledge skills to manage and preserve our oceans and have a positive impact on our natural world.**Build in-demand scientific knowledge and skills**This foundation year pathway is recommended if you want to study the full honours degree, but don’t meet the direct entry requirements. On successful completion of the foundation year, you will be ready to progress to study our full BSc Marine Biology honours degree, which is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology.Continuing your studies for three further years – or four, if you choose to include an industry placement – you will build a systematic understanding of key biological processes, including biodiversity and ecosystems. You will develop understanding of fisheries science, ocean challenges, marine management and conservation biology. **Get closer to industry**Focusing on real-world issues, you will balance theoretical learning with practical skill building, both in our Bodmer Laboratories on campus and through UK and international residential field trips organised with the National Fisheries Research Institute at places such as the renowned FSC Millport Field Station in Scotland. Once on the BSc degree, you will have the option to take an industry placement year between years two and three. Previous marine Biology students have experience placements with Operation Wallacea (various destinations worldwide) and Archipelagos (Greece), studying charismatic animals like sea turtles and marine mammals.**Features**+ Build scientific and study skills during an initial foundation year ready to progress to our full BSc (Hons) Marine Biology degree+ Learn about genetics, evolution and population development, and how these disciplines are applied in marine studies+ Gain an understanding of the ecological, socioeconomic, governance and ethical pressures facing marine managers+ Build technical and transferable science skills by learning how to apply cutting-edge biotechnologies to marine ecosystems+ Choose to include an industry placement and gain real-world context for your studies
