Introduction
Our MSc Child and Adolescent Mental Wellbeing will give you the knowledge and understanding to manage young people’s mental wellbeing – and to do so in varying socio-economic and political contexts in developing countries. As well as developing your knowledge of child and adolescent mental health, our postgraduate course will enhance your critical and analytic thinking skills. We’ll encourage you to reflect on theoretical perspectives relating to child and adolescent mental wellbeing. Mental health disorders can occur from early childhood and the prevalence increases with age, highlighting the importance of early intervention to prevent the development of long term or serious mental health problems. According to the Mental Health Foundation one in eight children and young people aged 5 -19 have a least one mental disorder. This has a huge impact on these individuals but also their families and the wider community.
Whatever your reason for wanting to develop your understanding of child and adolescent mental wellbeing our Masters degree will give you the specialist knowledge to realise your ambitions. You’ll cover a range of aspects influencing child and adolescent mental health from psyche development, emotional wellbeing, coping mechanisms, social communication, learning disabilities and family dynamics. You’ll also explore interventions and treatment relevant to mental health issues in children. We welcome applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those outside the areas of health care and mental health who have a degree-level qualification and a passion for child and adolescent mental health. Our Masters course is taught in Chelmsford, via blended learning (Chelmsford and online) or there is a distance learning only option. You can study this course full-time or part-time; at ARU, our postgraduate courses fit into your life. The distance learning course is available to all. The blended learning course (Chelmsford) is open to UK and EU applicants only.
How you'll be assessed
You’ll be assessed in a variety of ways, from essay writing, reflections to presentations with commentary.
