Through our Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs in Music, the Department of Music strives to provide a rigorous music core within a liberal arts context. Students accepted into the Department of Music are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music degree program. The BS Music program inspires students to develop their love of music, obtain the necessary skills to achieve their musical and professional goals, and contribute to their communities and beyond. We offer students the opportunity to develop their musical skills beyond general knowledge to a specific course of study for their instrument or area of interest. This degree allows students to choose a concentration in one area of study (e.g., classical performance, jazz performance, composition, clinical musicianship, music technology and recording arts, and general music) or pursue a double concentration. All Bachelor of Science degrees require at least 60 liberal-arts credits a degree in Music also requires an academic minor, which allows students to explore disciplines outside of music and gain a well-rounded undergraduate education. The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree program expands students' course of study by combining a broad-based liberal arts education with a fundamental understanding of musical practice. Students enrolled in the BA in Music, which requires at least 90 liberal-arts credits, take the same core courses as students enrolled in the BS in Music. Students with a double major frequently choose the BA Music degree.
