Our BFA and MFA programs in painting join the other 2D specialties, drawing and printmaking. The curriculum establishes the relationship between painting’s rich and varied history, current dialogues in the field and the student’s personal thought and artistry. The combination of studio practice with creative ideas allows you to build a program that is perfect for your individual needs. You'll construct your own body of work, and leave with the connections and skills to succeed in your career goals.The program emphasizes experimentation with a variety of media and aesthetic directions, focusing on a broader, problem-solving approach to painting, drawing, printmaking, digital media, installation art and beyond. Personal studio space, exhibition opportunities and competitions give students valuable experiences that set them apart in the professional field.

Students need to have Transcripts from high school and/or college. At SIU Carbondale, applicants for admission will be eligible for automatic admission if they are on track to complete our course pattern requirements and who meet one of the following criteria: A cumulative high school GPA of 2.75; A ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class.

English Language Requirement: Any one of the following methods will automatically meet the minimum English requirement. Applicants who do not meet the automatic English language admission requirement will undergo a holistic review to determine potential admissibility.
