Ball State’s Theatre Creation Option provides a true liberal arts experience. Students develop a holistic understanding of theatre-making, from the exhilaration of brainstorming, to the nuts-and-bolts of rehearsal, to the thrill of opening night. This undergraduate-only option allows students to experiment within a variety of disciplines, including playwriting, dramaturgy, devising, creative producing, performance, theatre history, arts management, directing, and design. The theatre creation curriculum is ideal for multihyphenate creators and thinkers who want to take advantage of everything a large university has to offer. Students have the flexibility to double major or participate in extra-curricular activities. Over the course of their time at Ball State, students will sharpen their theatrical practice, take creative risks, and build relationships with fellow artists. Additionally, many theatre creation students pick up a minor in New Works for the Stage, a unique course of study that encourages interdisciplinarity and unconventional collaborations.
