Apa yang akan saya pelajari?

The UWM Clinical Psychology program strongly believes in the scientist-practitioner model of training. To us, the scientist-practitioner is not a dual entity consisting of separate research and clinical repertoires. Rather, the scientist-practitioner is a professional psychologist who uses knowledge of research to guide practice and who is fully capable of conducting research in the context of practice, or independent of practice. The UWM Clinical Psychology Program is a member of The Academy of Psychological Clinical Science, which is a coalition of doctoral training programs that share a common goal of producing and applying scientific knowledge to the assessment, understanding, and amelioration of human problems. Membership in the Academy is granted only after a thorough peer review process. Its membership in the Academy indicates that our program is committed to excellence in scientific training, and to using clinical science as the foundation for designing, implementing, and evaluating assessment and intervention procedures. We are also members of the Clinical Child and Pediatric Psychology Training Council. In neuropsychology we offer training consistent with Division 40 Clinical Neuropsychology and Houston conference guidelines.

Persyaratan masuk

Untuk mahasiswa internasional

Application must be made to the Graduate School. Applicants are admitted only at the beginning of each academic year. Applications must be submitted by December 1.An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements and the following departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the program: Completion of an undergraduate major in psychology (or neuroscience). Receipt of a positive recommendation by the Departmental Admissions Committee. Admission is based on evaluation of an applicants entire record. In evaluating each application, the Admissions Committee examines such factors as grades, research record (e.g., research apprenticeships, publications, presentations, and senior or honors theses), and letters of recommendation. Students without an undergraduate major in psychology or neuroscience are welcome to apply, and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If they are offered admission, they will be informed about any additional courses that would need to be taken at UWM (in addition to the required graduate coursework) to fill gaps in training. As part of their doctoral requirements, PhD students must earn a masters degree in psychology that includes a thesis derived from empirical research; they do this by fulfilling the requirements of the “General Psychology Track” for the MS degree while enrolled simultaneously in the PhD program. An exception is that students who already have earned a masters degree based on an empirical thesis in psychology or neuroscience from another college or university are exempt from the requirement of earning the MS in our department.
