Geophysics is the science of applying physical principles to help us understand our world. You'll work across maths, physics, and geology, and can take modules in astronomy, geography, and archaeology. At Southampton, you'll learn about current geophysics and gain a range of geophysical, geological and mathematical skills. These include practical field skills and computer programming. Successful completion of the one-year full-time Foundation Year can lead you to a guaranteed place on any one of 16 different integrated undergraduate degree in Engineering, Maths, Physics or Geophysics. In this preliminary year of study you'll learn the core principles of mathematics, mechanical science, engineering principles and electricity and electronics. You'll also undertake laboratory work and a variety of assignments to develop your critical thinking and problem solving. During your Foundation Year, you'll receive full support from subject tutors and feedback to progress your academic development.
