Data Science (Geospatial) MSc

University of Leicester

The interdisciplinary MSc in Data Science (Geospatial) trains students in Data Science with an emphasis on using the unique characteristics of spatial data (location, distance and spatial interactions) to understand where, when and why things happen. Using a wide range of data types and sources, you will learn how to leverage geospatial data using specialised methods and software (including, but not limited to: R, Python, ArcGIS and machine learning) to better understand the place-based contexts of social, economic and environmental phenomena. The uptake, use, and commercialisation of geospatial data increasingly requires expertise in Data Science so you will be trained in a broad range of data science techniques. These skills are not limited to a career focused on geospatial data. They address the shortage of qualified data scientists in the UK and abroad on graduation will be in a strong position for a career in a range of data science sectors.
