BA in History (Social Studies Education)

The history education program combines a major in history with a minor in education. A candidate who would like to teach high school social studies has the opportunity to study history in depth and develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be an effective day-one-ready classroom teacher. The curriculum aligns with state competencies and national standards to prepare candidates for licensure exams. Upon completion of all program requirements and licensure exams, completers of the history education program will be eligible to apply for a standard teaching license in secondary social studies.The Department of History, Political Science, and Geography offers degrees that prepare students for a wide range of careers.Graduates in history enter a variety of professional fields and work as historians in government agencies, archives, museums, libraries, and non-profit institutions. Those earning degrees in political science understand the governing process and its relationship to complex issues arising in a modern society. Political science graduates are also prepared for many professions and find employment in both the private and public sector.
