The Graduate Diploma Diabetes Care course aims to build upon and advance the registered nursesmidwives repertoire of knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional values within the chosen field of diabetes care.The Graduate Diploma in Diabetes Care is aimed at the professional preparation of registered nurses who wish to specialise in diabetes care. This strand is designed to meet the professional development needs of nursesmidwives caring for people at risk of or with a diagnosis of diabetes in clinical settings. Careers EmployabilityThe Graduate Diploma in Diabetes Care provides you with the comprehensive knowledge and skills required to manage a defined case load, working unsupervised and using specialist diabetes nursingmidwifery skills to assess the needs of the person with diabetes and to plan, implement, document and evaluate care. Entry RequirementsAll applicants must hold a primary degree in Nursing or Midwifery or equivalent and be engaged in relevant clinical practice with an appropriate client groupAll applicants must be entered onto the appropriate division of the Nurses Midwives Register maintained by the NMBIApplicants not working in a general setting are required to complete 20 of the required clinical hours for the programme in general adult clinics either in their own hospialparent hospitalSpecific requirementsAll applicants must have a minimum of one years post-registration experience including at least six months caring for people with diabetesCandidates must be employed in the clinical environment caring for people with diabetes prior to commencing the course and for the duration of the courseCandidates who are not employed full time in a diabetes setting are advised to secure clinical exposure to general adult clinics in order to achieve all learning outcomes
